And How is a Weeaboo Different from an Otaku?
Weeaboo is an Otaku slang word for a wannabe. The way it's used in anime circles is to describe a non - Japanese person who goes around thinking that they are Japanese. Common characteristics of a Weeaboo person are that they do not value their own birth culture because they see the Japanese culture as the culture that they really belong to. Which leads the person to think that they know everything there is to know about Japan when everything they know comes solely from anime and manga which are works of fiction, so everything this person thinks they know is completely inaccurate and/or fantasy. So if this person did end up in Japan, they'd be an ass making a total fool of themselves and being totally disrespectful of the Japanese culture.
But while it's perfectly possible for a person to be both an Otaku and a Weeaboo at the same time, and the majority of Weeaboos that most Otaku know are Otakus, that does not mean that the two are the same thing, nor is it a requirement that a person has to be an Otaku in order to be a Weeaboo.
A person can become a Weeaboo without having ever been an Otaku, For instance, someone could take up a karate class, and upon becoming a black belt they now have it in their head that they're now a Japanese person. They can then no longer value their own birth culture because there's not enough kung - fu fighting going on for their satisfaction. They can then think that they know everything there is to know about Japan even though everything that they know comes solely from that karate class. So if this person did end up in Japan, they'd be going around challenging every Japanese person they see to some kind of kung - fu fight. And there you have a Weeaboo who was never an Otaku.
And being an Otaku alone is not enough to make you a Weeaboo. You can love anime/manga to death, have yourself a waifu/husbando, and even go so far as to have this be your only source of entertainment. But as long as you never start thinking of yourself as being a Japanese person, you continue to value your own birth culture, you know that you do not know everything there is to know about Japan solely from anime/manga, and you'd be completely respectful of the Japanese culture if you ever ended up in Japan, then you're an Otaku who has never become a Weeaboo.
One thing to keep in mind however, is that someone who really is a Japanese person can never ever under any circumstances be a Weeaboo. Why? For the same reason that someone who really is a boy, born with a dick and a pair of balls, can never ever under any circumstances be a tomboy. The real thing can never be the wannabe thing.
Understand though that I was only using Japan as an example here, but this applies to all foreign countries and is in no way exclusive only to Japan. Unless you have French blood in your body, doing this same thing with France also makes you a Weeaboo. Unless you have Egyptian blood in your body, doing this same thing with Egypt also makes you a Weeaboo. Unless you have Indian blood in your body, doing this same thing with India also makes you a Weeaboo. Unless you have Russian blood in your body, doing this same thing with Russia also makes you a Weeaboo. And it works the other way around as well. Any non - American person doing this same thing with America is also a Weeaboo.
On an interesting side note though, if you come across someone calling people this word and that person cannot tell you what a Weeaboo is, or even if they can they have no proof those people really are Weeaboos, then you know that person is racist. While it's never actually happened to me before, I've heard other Otaku mention that racist people use this word for Otaku people in the same manner that they'd use the "n" word for black people, even if it is a Japanese person. As if to say that only Japanese people who were born and raised in Japan have any right to like anything Japanese. Which is a lot like saying anyone calling themselves female is a gay faggot man even if you were born with a coochie, because only those who have large tits and curvy skinny bikini supermodel bodies and act completely 100% girly have any right to call themselves female. Many of them not even knowing it's true meaning, and the few that do know simply don't care. But we know that there's no need to get all bent out of shape over it, because we know that there's nothing racist about the word Weeaboo. So the only thing they're accomplishing is wasting their breath.
